Will Kamala Harris run for US president in 2028? Or will she choose private life after stepping down as VP

While conceding the presidential election, Kamala Harris said the fight might take a while sometimes but that 'does not mean we won’t win'

After the debacle in the US presidential elections against Republican rival Donald Trump, vice president Kamala Harris said she will continue the battle. But does that mean the Demoract will run for president again in four years?

With just two-and-a-half months are left for the US vice president to step down, Harris is reportedly yet to decide about what is next for her. In 2003, she was elected San Francisco district attorney and more than two decades later, she is set to lead a private life.

The Joe Biden administration is coming to an end soon but there is much more Harris could do. However, several allies and friends, including California Lt Governor Eleni Kounalakis believe that she will have an answer about her next venture in the coming months.

Harris was criticised for being a "selected" candidate instead of an "elected" one as Biden dropped out of the race midway, leaving not much time for the Democrats to hold a primary election. Hence, it's not yet clear how many Democrats will back Harris for 2028 following Trump's emphatic victory.

However, if Trump's second administration turns out to be unpredictable like the first one and become "an existential danger to the country's foundational institutions" as she said, Harris could have a chance for a comeback with the support of donors.

While conceding the election, Harris said the fight will continue "in the voting booth, in the courts and in the public square." She said the fight takes a while sometimes but that "does not mean we won’t win."

Biden also praised his VP, saying she will continue the fight with "purpose, determination, and joy" and be a champion for all Americans. He said Harris will continue to be a leader "our children will look up to" for generations to come.

Harris was the first woman to become the US vice president. Hillary Clinton, also a Democrat, was the first female candidate to run for president as a major party's nominee in 2016. Unlike Harris, she won the popular vote but was defeated in the Electoral College by Trump.
