The Uzbek suspect who was detained for allegedly killed Russian general Igor Kirillov on Tuesday has revealed crucial details about the assassination, according to Moscow authorities.

Russia's Investigative Committee (SK) said the suspect was recruited by the Ukrainian special services, which offered the suspect $100,000 to carry out the targeted killing. SK said the man, 29, was suspected of "committing a terrorist act".

The suspect who has not been named publicly rented a car and installed a video camera to livestream the explosion to the organisers in Ukraine's Dnipro.

The revelation comes after Ukraine's security services claimed responsibility for assassination. A day before the killing, Ukraine charged Kirillove for allegedly committing war crimes.

Lieutenant General Kirillov, 54, was the senior most Russian military official to be killed since the war started in February 2022. He was the head of the radiological, chemical and biological defence forces of the Russian military.

Kirillov was killed after a scooter loaded with explosives in front of his residence was blown up remotely around 4 am Tuesday.

Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed deep condolences over Kirillov's death, according to Tass news agency.
