A shooting incident was reported at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in Arizona, the US, on Wednesday at 9.40 pm local time.

The gunshots were heard at Terminal 4 of the airport, said police. This terminal is reportedly busy during year-end as passengers arrive or depart for Christmas holidays.

Phoenix police tweeted that officers are "investigating a shooting that happened at @PHXSkyHarbor. However, police said they are not looking for any suspects and the airport operations have returned to normal.

Airport representative Eric Everts in a email stated that Terminal 4A security checkpoint was temporarily closed and PHX Sky Train operations were paused as a precaution.

However, it was not clear if anyone was injured in the shooting. The cause of the shooting is still not revealed to the public.
