However, no casualties were reported in the incident and all passengers and crew members were evacuated safely. The PAL Airlines flight, which arrived from St John's, Newfoundland, failed deploy the landing gear properly.
A passenger, identified as Nikki Valentine, told Canada-based CBS News that the flight began to tilt left at a 20-degree angle, following which a loud crash was heard as the left wing smashed against the tarmac.

Valentine added that the flight kept skidding on the runway for a "decent" distance as the pilots struggled to bring it to a halt. Following this, there was fire and smoke, presumably from the left engine, she recalled.
The plane, which had a capacity of 80, had 73 passengers on board. All the passengers and the crew were safely evacuated within two minutes and moved to a hangar for medical assessment though minor injuries were reported.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the landing gear failure. The operations at the airport were briefly suspended following the incident.
This comes hours after a Jeju Air Flight 7C2216 crashed and erupted into flames in South Korea's Muan, killing 179 people. Only two people are said to have survived the crash caused by a suspected bird strike. Reports have attributed the flight crash to landing gear malfunction but witnesses claimed that flames were seen in the jet's engine and explosions were heard before it landed.Â
