Directed by Rajesh Selva and produced by Kamal Haasan, Vikram-starrer Kadaram Kondan is a mystery thriller, with plenty of stylish action thrown in.
Vikram is KK, a heavily tattooed wanted criminal, who spots funky hairdos. We are also introduced to the world of Vasu (Abi Hassan) and and his pregnant wife Aatirah (Akshara Haasan). They get into trouble when Vasu tries to save KK after a shootout in Kuala Lumpur.
Kadaram Kondan is the remake of a French movie Point Blank. Director Selva had said he had made a few changes in the script to make the movie appealing to the Kollywood audience.
The movie excels in the technical front and the action on screen is amply backed by an outstanding background score by Mohamaad Ghibran. The fight sequences are brilliantly shot, and Kuala Lumpur comes beautifully alive on screen, thanks to the craft of cinematographer Srinivas.
While Kadaram Kondan is high on action and style, what it lacks is novelty in script. The movie follows the predictable path of a world inhabited by criminals and cops, a kidnap and survival. However, the element of mystery that the director manages to create makes sure that the viewers are marginally engaged.
Vikram excels in action sequences and manages to look menacing as KK. Abi Hassan has done justice to his character and Akshara Haasan stands out as the timid Aatirah. Lena and Cherry Mardia as female investigating officers Kalpana and Catherine have done a good job.
The movie may just make the action movie goers happy, but those who are looking for a slice of real life may feel left out.
