Interesting scenario

Your cover story on India’s best b-schools was comprehensive and informative (‘Challenge accepted!’, November 12). It is good that b-schools are nurturing a new generation of leaders who can steer through high-powered scenarios. This will help them in better ways to be good managers and CEOs.

The growing startup ecosystem in the country is interesting. It will help the bright MBA graduates to expand their world view even while they sit in their motherland and work for a startup. Management curriculum in India should continue to evolve.

Your cover story made for a good read. B-schools should continue to groom future leaders. They should help them to become industry experts. THE WEEK-Hansa Research Best B-Schools Survey will help students choose the ideal b-school that they want to be part of.

Surinder Sharma,

Kudos to THE WEEK for an informative and helpful cover story on the best b-schools in India. I am sure it will help MBA aspirants to make the right choice in future.

Sentimental value

The black-and-yellow taxis have moved out from Mumbai’s streets, but they will remain etched in our memories (‘The big picture’, November 12). Whenever we think of Mumbai, the iconic kaali-peeli cabs comes to mind. It holds sentimental value for so many people across generations. Many bigwigs in Mumbai have travelled in these cars and they still cherish it.

Legendary Fali

Fali S. Nariman is one of the best jurists we have in the country. He is also the most respected voice in the Indian legal system (‘Discussions about a new constitution should be throttled at the start’, November 12). I rate K.K. Venugopal, former attorney general, as the next best. India is lucky to have such great lawyers who are respected by even the top judges in the country. Their views and arguments are taken very seriously.

R.K. Pathak,

Nariman responded to your questions with masterly finesse. That at 94 he could speak like that surprised me. Lawyers and judges require sharp minds and ironclad courage. Their job makes their brain sharper. Writing and reading are habits for lawyers and law students, and they have good cognitive health. This is perhaps why most lawyers and judges live so long.

Wise decision

That V.K. Pandian joined the Naveen Patnaik-led Biju Janata Dal is a wise and noble decision (‘The chosen one’, November 12). People like him are the future of the nation.

Thank you for bringing people like Pandian to the fore.

Goutam Sen,

Jaipur.

I used to always wonder who would succeed Patnaik. After reading your article I got the feeling that Pandian is the right choice. But I am not sure if a Tamilian will be accepted in Odisha. The BJP is making strides in the state, and Pandian will have his work cut out in the Lok Sabha elections next year. One must also remember that not all bureaucrats make good politicians.

We will host Olympics

Mani Shankar Aiyar had no business whatsoever to say that India should not bid to host the 2036 Olympic Games. It should (‘Mani-festo’, November 12). We have learned from our mistakes in the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, and are not going to repeat those mistakes. Even though I agree with Aiyar that there should be playgrounds and coaches in every one of our 2.6 lakh village panchayats, we also need to host major sporting events to attract eyeballs.

Nandakumar G.,

Aiyar cannot believe that we have enough qualified talent to compete at an international level, especially after quite a successful show of strength at Tokyo [Olympics] and Hangzhou [Asian Games]. Also, is it not absurd when Aiyar questions the political correctness of staging the Olympics in the centenary of the 1936 Berlin ‘Nazi’ Olympics? Should the world of competitive sports also come to a halt that year?

Inspirational career

Meeran Chadha Borwankar has had an extraordinary career and is an inspiration for so many women police officers out there (‘Detour’, November 12). Every serving police officer should read Borwankar’s book, Madam Commissioner—The Extraordinary Life of an Indian Police Chief.

After she came out with the book, Borwankar may have ruffled a few feathers.

My Diwali gift

Your cover story on Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud was a Diwali gift (‘The sage of reason’, October 29). As a fellow Maharashtrian I feel proud.

I want to congratulate Anjuly Mathai for presenting to us the untold story of Chandrachud. He is religious, sensitive and a humanitarian in whose hands 1.4 billion citizens and democracy are safe.

Subhash Desai,

Kolhapur, Maharashtra.

Your cover story on Chandrachud was wonderfully written. He should do something to reduce the pendency of court cases.

Error

In the cover story on best b-schools (November 12), VLB Janakiammal College of Arts and Science in Coimbatore was wrongly mentioned as VLB Janakiammal College of Engineering and Technology.

Hansa Research apologises for its error.
