Good luck, Dissanayake

Your cover story on Sri Lanka was timely and informative (‘Road to redemption’, September 22).

It is important for Sri Lanka to overcome the crisis the country finds itself in. A stable and prosperous Sri Lanka benefits not only its people but also its neighbours. By moving forward and achieving lasting prosperity, Sri Lanka can once again contribute positively to the region.

Coming from a humble background, Anura Kumara Dissanayake has a clear vision and is committed to leading Sri Lanka towards prosperity. I wish him the best.

THE WEEK got it right when it said that Dissanayake was the frontrunner in the presidential election in Sri Lanka. Being a leftist does not mean he will distance himself from India. To restore peace and lift his country out of crisis, he must work closely with India. No leader in the region can afford to be at odds with India.

It was not surprising to see Dissanayake emerge winner in Sri Lanka’s presidential race. The result reflects the disillusionment of the people with the existing political culture. This was no less than a decisive anti-establishment vote.

Rahul is not “pappu”

I completely agree with Sam Pitroda that Rahul Gandhi has a vision, contrary to what the BJP says (‘Point blank’, September 22). He is not a “pappu” as some portray him. The BJP is damaging the reputation of a learned individual by spreading falsehoods and belittling him. People see the truth, and that is why he has become the leader of opposition today.
