Human greed might disrupt any sensible future plan: Satish Acharya

It is the future generations who will pay the price

When THE WEEK approached me with an invite to do an elaborate illustration on the future of India, I was a little confused because the theme was broad. India being a diverse nation I was not sure which areas I should focus on. Then I just decided to have fun illustrating my own wild thoughts on the country’s future.

In the illustration, all aspects are exaggerated to give a touch of humour. When I was imagining the future of India, I was wondering what our planners were thinking about the future of our roads, cities and drainage system 30 years ago. Now we see that most of our cities cannot handle heavy rains. They collapse quickly leaving the residents at the mercy of nature's wrath. So, have we learnt our lesson? Are we ready with a plan for the next 40 or 50 years?

Human greed might disrupt any sensible future plan. But it is the future generations who will pay the price. I hope our leaders, bureaucrats, planners, industrialists and corporate houses will sincerely think about the future of India.
