James Earl Jones was born on January 17, 1931, to actor Robert Earl Jones and Ruth Connolly. His remarkable career, spanning over decades, both on the stage and on screen, earned him widespread acclaim. Here's a look at his iconic roles.

Mufasa - The Lion King (1994)

Jones voiced the lovable Mufasa, a character who does not appear on screen much, but left an indelible mark in the movie and shaped the way his son, Simba, saved the forest.

Darth Vader - Star Wars trilogy (1977, 1980, 1983)

Credited with revealing the plot-twist of the century - Darth Vader is in fact Luke's father - Jones voiced Vader in the first three Star Wars films – A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi.

Jack Jefferson - The Great White Hope (1970)

Jones takes on the role of a wrestler, Jack Jefferson, who struggles in the world of boxing due to his race. He won a Tony Award for the role and 'was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor.

Douglass Dilman - The Man (1972)

Dilman is set to run the White House, as the president, vice-president and speaker of the House cannot. This is the first time that a black US president was ever portrayed on screen.

Jones received a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Academy in 2011.

Jones was also the recipient of a non-competitive EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony), a designation given to those who have received awards in each category, pertaining to TV, music, movies and theatre.
