Meet the Bald Eagle:

Officially the national bird of the United States!

The White House announced on Christmas Eve that President Joe Biden signed a bill officially designating the bald eagle as the national bird of the United States of America.

The US Congress passed the bill unanimously, officially appointing the bald eagle as one of the country's national symbols.

The bald eagle has been featured on the Great Seal of the United States since 1782.

Since then, it has appeared on official documents, the presidential flag, military insignia, and coins and bills.

However, US media reports said that the bald eagle, which has its own holiday and protection act, was never technically assigned the title of "national bird."

Unlike other eagles, the bald eagle was indigenous only to North America, a US Govt document claimed.

Although once plentiful throughout the US, the bald eagle population has greatly declined in recent times due to being targeted by fishermen and farmers.

Bald eagles have vision 4-5 times better than humans and can reach speeds of 160kph.

The bird is not really bald but gets its name from the conspicuous appearance of its white-feathered head.
