Kolkata, Aug 1 (PTI) The Met office has forecast heavy rain in south Bengal till Friday morning, with all districts in the region experiencing moderate to heavy downpours on Thursday, disrupting normal life.
    The coastal district of South 24 Parganas saw significant rainfall, with Port Canning recording 92 mm over nine hours until 5:30 PM.
    Heavy to very heavy rain is expected to continue in Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, Bankura, Purba and Paschim Bardhaman, and Birbhum, while Kolkata, Howrah, Purba and Paschim Medinipur, Jhargram, and Nadia are likely to receive heavy showers.
    Kolkata experienced light to moderate rain, with 30 mm recorded during the same period. The rains led to traffic snarls, affecting commuters and schoolchildren in the city and its suburbs.
    Other areas in south Bengal that received significant rainfall include Diamond Harbour (85 mm), Magra (58 mm), Panagarh (46 mm), and Kalaikunda (41 mm), Met officials said.
