PTI Fact Check Social media post makes misleading claim on students visiting malls in school hours

     New Delhi, Sep 14 (PTI) A post shared on social media makes the misleading claim that the Uttar Pradesh government has recently issued a new order prohibiting school students from visiting malls, restaurants, and parks in their uniforms during school hours.
     During the investigation, the PTI Fact Check Desk found that the Uttar Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights had issued a letter in July 2022 on the matter, asking all district magistrates to enforce such a ban.
     The investigation revealed that this directive is still in effect and no new order has been issued in recent days.
     On September 7, a post on Facebook read, “The Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh has issued a new order banning students from going to malls, restaurants, and parks in their school uniforms during school hours. What is your opinion on this? Comment below.”
     The post has garnered over two thousand 'likes', and has been shared many times.
     To verify the viral post, the PTI Fact Check Desk conducted a Google search using relevant keywords. No recent credible news related to such a directive by the Uttar Pradesh government was found.
     However, several media reports came up on the Uttar Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights's letter to district magistrates in 2022.
     According to a report by Prabhat Khabar on July 28, 2022, the UP SCPCR had asked DMs to prohibit students from entering public places in their school uniforms during school hours.
     The letter by Dr Suchita Chaturvedi, a member of the SCPCR, read: “It has come to the notice of the Commission that school students often skip their classes and wander in public places. There is always a possibility of untoward incidents involving these children. Therefore, the Commission has issued this letter.”

     At the end of the investigation, the PTI Fact Check Desk contacted Chaturvedi, who confirmed that an order was issued in 2022 and is still in effect. No new directive has been issued in recent days.
     The investigation confirms that no such order has been issued in Uttar Pradesh recently and that the viral post on social media is misleading.
