New Delhi, Mar 14 (PTI) Delhi Police is on high alert, and security measures have been beefed up in view of the Holi celebrations that coincide with the second Friday prayers of Ramzan, an official said.
Over 25,000 security personnel have been deployed in Delhi to maintain law and order, the official said on Friday.
The police are closely monitoring about 300 sensitive areas with CCTV cameras and drones.
Elaborating on the arrangements to maintain peace and order in Jahangirpuri, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Bhisham Singh said, "We have intensified patrolling and set up pickets at various locations. We are also using drones to surveil the roofs of houses and buildings, and according to reports, nothing suspicious has been reported."
The Muslim community has promised to offer their prayers after 2 pm in the Aman Committee and we have tightened security to ensure that nothing untoward happens, he said.
On security arrangements for Holi, DCP (West) Vichitra Veer said, "Delhi Police has been preparing for this festival for the past three to four days. We are ensuring the peaceful celebration of both Holi and Jumma with the help of the common people. Action is being taken against those trying to create a ruckus."
Patrolling has been increased in all 15 police districts in the national capital, particularly in residential areas and places known for Holi gatherings.
"No one will be allowed to breach law and order. Teams are keeping a strict vigil, and teams are on high alert," he said.
Traffic police and city police have set up joint pickets, and special teams are deployed at major road intersections to check drunk driving and traffic violations, another official said.
