Hyderabad, Apr 13 (PTI) All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) will conduct a protest meeting against the Waqf (Amendment) Act here on April 19, AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi said on Sunday.
The meeting will be held at Darussalam (AIMIM's headquarters) under the leadership of AIMPLB president Khalid Saifullah Rahmani from 7 PM to 10 PM, Owaisi told reporters here.
Members of the Muslim Personal Law Board from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh along with other Muslim organisations from both the states will take part in this protest meeting, the Hyderabad MP said, adding they will deliver speeches and tell the public about how the Waqf (Amendment) Act is not in favour of the Waqf.
The AIMIM chief said they are also trying to talk to the members of the Parliament Waqf Committee and if their schedule permits, they can also attend this public meeting.
President Droupadi Murmu on April 5 gave her assent to the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, which was passed by Parliament in the first week of April.
Owaisi alleged that the Waqf (Amendment) Act brought out by the Narendra Modi government was "unconstitutional" and that it "violates" several provisions of the Constitution, including Articles 14, 15, 25, 26 and 29. This act is not in favour of Muslims, he asserted.
The AIMIM president appealed to Prime Minister Modi to reconsider this Act.
"You (PM Modi) are making this law that goes against the Constitution of India, and you are imposing your ideology on the country. Your ideology should be Indian nationalism and the Constitution," Owaisi said.
He accused the BJP government at the Centre of spreading "lies" by stating that no one can challenge the Waqf Tribunal judgement in courts.
He said there are several tribunals, including the Income Tax tribunal, NGT and railway claims tribunal, and review petitions can be filed against its judgments in high court.
With the support of NDA allies--N Chandrababu Naidu (TDP), Nitish Kumar (JD-U), Chirag Paswan (LJP-Ram Vilas), and Jayant Chaudhary (RLD) and others, the BJP made this "black law", he said.
He sought to know the provisions (of the Act) which benefit the Waqf Board and the Muslims, adding that all this is being done to snatch away their properties. Through the amendments, all efforts have been made to "destroy" Waqf, he said.
"We are protesting against it. We support the decision of AIMPLB (that it would lead a nationwide movement against the Waqf (Amendment) Act). We appeal that wherever the protests are held make them successful, and the most important thing is that the protest should be peaceful," Owaisi said.
