Odisha Guv CM mourn death of Pope Francis

    Bhubaneswar, Apr 21 (PTI) Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik on Monday condoled the death of Pope Francis, and praised his compassion for the people in distress.
    Pope Francis died on Easter Monday at the age of 88 at his residence in Vatican’s Casa Santa Marta.
    “Hon'ble Governor Shri @DrHariBabuK expressed deep sorrow over the passing of #PopeFrancis, the first Latin American pope. He said that the Pope's unwavering dedication to promoting peace, compassion, and unity profoundly touched the hearts of millions around the world,” Governor Odisha said in an X post.

    Majhi also said that he was deeply saddened by the death of Pope Francis, who will always be remembered for his compassion and humility.
    "As the first Latin American leader of the Roman Catholic Church, he inspired millions across the world with his message of unity and love. My heartfelt condolences to the global Catholic community,” he said in a post on X.
    Leader of the opposition and former chief minister and BJD president Naveen Patnaik, who had called on Pope Francis in Vatican City in June 2022, also mourned the death of the Pope.

    "His Papacy was exemplified by compassion, humility and promotion of interfaith dialogue. May his soul rest in peace. My thoughts and prayers are with his millions of fans and followers,” he said.

    Patnaik had presented the Pope with Odisha’s 'Patta Chitra' painting “Tree of Life” during the visit.
    A statement released from the office of spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar said, “Pope Francis was a deep believer and a traditionalist with a difference! He was pro-reform and a passionate advocate of interfaith dialogue.”
    “His (Pope Francis) concern for the environment and efforts against human trafficking are noteworthy. His call for greater understanding will continue to inspire his followers. He had also sent his emissary with a warm message for the Art of Living at the World Culture Festival held in Delhi and Washington, D.C,” it said.
