South Africa leads Bangladesh by 137 runs at lunch on Day 2 of 1st Test

Mirpur, Dhaka (Bangladesh), Oct 22 (AP) Kyle Verreynne and Wiaan Mulder hit half-centuries as South Africa extended its lead to 137 by reaching 243-8 at lunch on Tuesday's second day of the opening Test against Bangladesh.
Mulder was out for 54 with eight fours after hitting his maiden 50, but Verreynne was on 77 and Dane Piedt on 6 at the day's first interval.
Bangladesh was bowled out for 106 in just 1 & 1/2 sessions on Day 1, but Taijul Islam's 5-49 kept them in contention later in the day.
Verreynne and Mulder batted resolutely after South Africa resumed the day at 140-6. They played the sweep and reverse sweep shot perfectly to deal with the Bangladesh spinners astutely.
Verreynne raised his fourth 50 from 67 balls by sweeping Taijul to short square leg.
As the partnership grew stronger, pace bowler Hasan Mahmud gave the side some respite with two wickets in consecutive deliveries.
He had Mulder caught by Shadman Islam at wide slip with a back-of-length delivery and then clean-bowled Keshav Maharaj for a duck to end the session with 3-51.
It's the first of two Tests between the teams. They play the second beginning October 29 in Chittagong. (AP) AYG
