Golden Kayaloram, the fourth and last of the illegal flats built in Maradu municipality in Kochi, was demolished at 2.30 pm on Sunday.

The apartment building, which was supposed to be demolished at 2pm, was razed down at 2.30pm following a half-hour delay due to a last-minute safety check. Golden Kayaloram was brought down in  seconds. There were no visible damages to an anganwadi and a high-rise nearby.

The controlled implosion was carried out by Mumbai-based Edifice Engineering with the technological support of South African firm Jet Demolition.

The demolition of the illegal apartment buildings constructed in Maradu was ordered by the Supreme Court last year after it was found that the construction was in violation of Coastal Regulation Zone rules.

Earlier on Sunday, the Jain Coral Cove apartement complex, the largest of all four building to be demolished, was razed down at 11.03am. Jain Coral Cove comprised 17 floors with 128 flats. On Saturday, two of the four buildings—Holy Faith H20 and Alfa Serene—were demolished in a controlled implosion.

Police imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 in a radius of 200 metres from the sites from 8am on Sunday.
