The Goods and Services Tax (GST) is not an achievement of any party, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said during the special function of GST launch in Parliament.
"We are deciding India's future course. We will chart a new course for the country at midnight with the launch of GST which is not an achievement of any party or government but a collective achievement. It's scope is not limited to the financial system," Modi said.
In his address, PM Modi said there couldn’t have been a better place than the Central Hall for the GST launch. Noting that India is a shining example of cooperative federalism, the PM said GST is the result of combined efforts of all political parties.
Modi said GST is a result of a long thought process and added that the best brains of the country have worked on it.
Addressing the gathering, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said the tax reform is shows that that India can rise above narrow politics and added that with the implementation of this tax reform, the country will wake up to limitless opportunities.
