A fire broke of on Monday afternoon at the temporary administrative office of Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City) in Gandhinagar.
Gift City, housing offices of national and international companies, is a dream project of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He envisaged the project during his tenure as the chief minister of Gujarat.
Ajay Pandey, MD & Group CEO of GIFT City, said in a statement that the preliminary cause of the fire seems to be short circuit. Nearly an hour after smoke was spotted from one of the offices, possibly vacant, it engulfed the entire Aspire 2 section.
Initially, two fire tenders were rushed to the spot. However, as fire started spreading quickly due to strong winds, additional fire tenders were called from Ahmedabad and Kalol.

It took nearly two hours to douse the fire.
The Aspire 2 also houses a canteen where the employees and a few journalists were having lunch when the fire broke out. A select media briefing had just got over in the building. According to GIFT City officials, many documents inside the office were shifted before fire could destroy them. Gas cylinders from the canteen were also taken out of the complex.
There were no reports of anybody getting injured as the staff vacated the premises in time, said Mahesh Modh, Chief Fire Officer of Gandhinagar.
Investigations are on to find the reasons behind the fire.
