A dalit activist, who had attempted self-immolation at Patan in North Gujarat, died late night on Friday at a hospital in Ahmedabad.
Bhanubhai Vankar had set himself on fire on Thursday to protest against the state government's alleged apathy towards regularising land owned by a dalit woman named Hemaben.
Vankar, who was admitted to Apollo Hospital in Ahmedabad with 80 per cent burns, succumbed to injuries on Friday.
Chief Minister Vijay Rupani had said that the state government would bear the expenses of his treatment. He had also ordered a probe into the incident.
Dalit organisations had called for Patan bandh on Friday.
