Barely a week after the Congress lost the hard-fought elections in Gujarat, party president Rahul Gandhi returned to the state for a three-day visit on Saturday. And Gandhi kicked off the visit with the symbolic habit he adopted in the election campaign: with a temple visit.
Gandhi offered prayers at the revered Somnath Temple on Saturday morning. A visit to the same temple in late November had led to a controversy over Gandhi's religion after his name was allegedly listed in the visitors book for non-Hindus.
Later in the day, Gandhi is scheduled to meet Congress' newly elected legislators and party leaders from across the state to analyse the election results, where the Congress' tally of 80 seats was its best in over three decades.
Gandhi will also attend a gathering of party workers at the Gujarat University Convention Hall.
