Sari styles for summer

Saris probably will be the last thing on your mind when it comes to your choice of outfit this summer. But don't discard this beautiful draped wonder yet. Here are some interesting ways in which you can wear saris in summer and keep your cool.

Fabric
Choosing a sari in the right fabric for summer is essential. The idea is to ensure that the fabric breathes. Choose a lightweight material, so that you are not bogged down by the weight. And of course, comfort matters.

Cotton saris are the best choice for summer as they are lightweight and breezy. These are a perfect pick for humid days as they absorb sweat and keep you dry, too. Look at bright colour combinations like red and green, or indigo and yellow.

Viscose is another great option as it is easy to drape. Viscose saris also allow air to pass through its pores. Saris in this material are a great choice for someone opting for a modern-yet-comfortable look.

Yet another great choice of material this summer, is linen. Linen saris, too, have sweat-absorbing properties. You can also opt for a malmal sari, as the smooth texture makes it easy to walk around in. Good quality chiffon saris, too, are a great choice as it is easy to drape and carry off through the day.

Styles and colours
Change up your sari draping style this summer by taking a route other than the conventional blouse. Choose a chiffon or crop top or a cropped T-shirt for your blouse. You could also consider pairing your sari with an embroidered vest instead of the usual fitted blouses.

Other styling options you can try for a more laidback look are the dhoti sari or sari with leggings. These are great options for a night out or a fancy dinner outing, too. Don't forget strappy metallic sandals or wedges in bright colours like lime green and neon pink to go with your indo-western look.

Statement accessories
No sartorial look is complete without accessories. If you have opted for a cotton, linen or malmal sari with block prints or a tie and dye sari, choose a long chain with a chunky, jewelled pendant. If you have opted for a viscose sari or a chiffon one, you can opt for a choker—one made from lace or metal—depending on the mood. This summer, bring out bangles and dainty bracelets for a lighter, more feminine look.

Zip-up saris
Lastly, if you are too lazy to try out any of the drapes, just opt for a easy slip-on zip-up sari. These are a rage, especially among youngsters who want to wear saris only for special occasions.
