The story of seven nobles familes vying to rule a kingdom has seen a steady increase in popularity from season 1 till season 7. The current season especially has garnered a lot of attention as it is the penultimate one. Which means, a lot of clues of what is going to happen in the final season of the series lies in this season.

A lot of thought and detailing have gone on behind the scenery, outfits, weapons and the hairstyles in Game of Thrones. Yes, hairstyles. Just a look at the hairstyles of the leading characters will tell us a lot about the story. Various styles have been displayed through the series like dutch braids, french braids, scraggly waves, pixie cuts and man buns. Here's a look at what these styles mean.

Sansa Stark: Currently named 'Queen in the North' by her brother Jon Snow, Sansa's hairstyle looks eerily similar to 'Mad Queen' Cersei. “I have learnt a lot from her,” Sansa tells her brother and in this case, she may have learnt from the best. Anyone following Sansa's timeline in the story knows that this lady has undergone a great deal of trauma and abuse at the hands of men in her life, namely Joffrey, and then Ramsay Bolton. From losing her companion—Lady, the direwolf—and watching her father being beheaded, to escaping the cruel clutches of Bolton, she has faced quite a lot to gain the steely demeanour she now portrays. When Lady Stark was getting pally with Margery, she wore her hair like her. When she escaped King's Landing, she wore her hair in tight braids just like her mother did. In a snitch, her hair has been a reflection of every phase in her life.

If you want to copy Sansa's look from the latest episode where she was channelling her mother Catelyn while being in charge of the North, all you have to do is, make two or three braids on each side. Now, twist each side to resemble the shape eight at the back of your head and pin them up.

Daenerys Targaryen: The Mother of Dragons has come a really long way since season one. Betrothed to Khal Drogo, leader of the unruly Dothraki, by her brother Viserys, she is seen sporting unruly waves and an overall unkempt appearance as they journey through the 'Free Cities'. But eventually, as she takes on the role of Khaleesi and becomes sure of her journey to Westeros, she starts wearing braids to keep her hair sleeker. If one pays close attention, the Khaleesi always has braids as though defining a crown, just like the one she aims at achieving.

To achieve Dany's perfect queen look, make two thin braids close to the crown of your head on one side and one braid close to the other side. Now tie the three braids together and pin it to keep it in place. There! You look like a true Khaleesi.

Jon Snow: In the beginning of the series, Jon Snow, believed to be the bastard son of Ned Stark, sent to be part of the Night's Watch, is seen with soft curls framing his face. But post being killed by men in the Night's Watch, losing the love of his life and being resurrected, the King in the North seems to be losing patience with his hair. A no-nonsense man bun has been his hairstyle ever since season 6.

Cersei: Right from the beginning of the series, Cersei, daughter of the Lannister family and Queen, has been the symbol of opulence. Be it through her embroidered gowns with elaborate sleeves or her luscious blonde tresses worn in various beautiful hairstyles, she has always been the queen of panache. Season five saw her losing face over incest. Her long hair was shorn off by religious extremists. But the event did not deter the ever-determined Cersei. From season six, she has hardened her resolve for revenge, sits proud on the iron throne and the slightly overgrown pixie cut only makes her look even more formidable.

To get one of Cersei's more elaborate hairstyles, take sections of hair from each side of the crown and from the nape, closer to your ears. Make neat braids from each section and create a bun at the back of your head. As for rest of the hair, twist them into rope braids on each side and let them be.

Arya: The youngest Stark is one great tomboy. She always wore her hair messy to suit her personality. The first big transformation happens when little Arya leaves King's Landing to join as a recruit in the Night's Watch. She chops her hair off to look more like a boy. But with each passing season, as she works her way through her hit list and being trained by the faceless men of Braavos, her hair grows longer and starts to look like the Arya we all know and love.
