On Wednesday, the moon is set to stage a rare triple show—a blue super moon will combine with a total lunar eclipse that will be visible from western North America to eastern Asia.
The overlap of a blue moon—the second full moon in a calendar month—with a lunar eclipse while the moon is at its closest approach to the earth is the first such celestial trifecta since 1982.
As expected, geeks and fanboys jumped in with references from Naruto, an extremely popular Japanese anime. In the series, the antagonist tries to project a jutsu (technique) off the moon, giving it a blood red clot, and place the whole world under an illusion.
